Commonly Asked Questions - Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis: Are You at Risk? Some of the risk factors include:
  • Eating foods that have poor nutrient value. (highly processed foods / junk foods)
  • Lack of regular weight bearing exercise.
  • Highly stressful lifestyle and periods of prolonged stress.
  • Drinking sodas. (high in sugars and phosphoric acid which leach calcium from bones and teeth.)
  • Steroid medications and stomach acid reducing medicines.
  • Hormonal imbalances.
  • Eating very few servings of fresh fruits, vegetables and raw nuts.
  • Smoking, excessive alcohol and caffeine consumption.

You need 16 key nutrients to maintain healthy bones throughout your lifetime and all of these can be found in a healthy balanced diet. There are foods that you may eat that create bone loss; for example: the preservative phosphoric acid found in many processed foods and sodas can actually leach calcium out of your bones and teeth. Eating more than 8oz of meat / chicken in one meal creates a mineral and pH imbalance that causes the bones to loose more minerals. The consumption of too many processed and refined foods (junk food and fast foods) which are minerally depleted further cause mineral depletion in your body.

Stress, the lack of exercise, the lack of good quality sleep, hormone imbalances and a poorly balanced diet all contribute to bone loss as we age. This phenomenon was not seen until about 100 years ago; even the bones of the ancient Egyptians were healthy so what has changed?

We now live in a fast paced, chronically stressed out environment; fast foods, fast eating, seldom sitting down to regular meals like our grandparents did and most people seldom take the time to exercise on a daily basis.

It is well worth investing some time each day in your health; the pay offs will be huge.
